How much does a small business website cost in 2026
Building, hosting, domain and mailboxes: November 2026 prices for Wix, WordPress, Squarespace and freelancers, plus the costs people miss after a year.
8 minute read
A small business website in 2026 costs two things: a monthly or yearly fee to keep it online, and the cost of building it, in money or in your own time. As of November 2026, site builder plans run from about 4 to 45 USD a month, Israeli WordPress hosting starts at about 48 NIS a month before VAT, and a freelancer in Israel quotes roughly 1,000 to 7,500 NIS to build the site. The cheapest way for you depends on who builds it and how often you will change it.
What you actually pay for
Every website, however it is made, has the same parts. Compare the ways by these parts, not by the headline price.
- Building. Someone has to make the pages: a freelancer or agency you pay once, you with a site builder's editor, or you with an AI agent such as ChatGPT, Claude or Cursor. A paid AI subscription is a cost too, if you do not have one already.
- Hosting or a site builder plan. The monthly or yearly fee that keeps the site online. With Wix or Squarespace it is the plan. With WordPress it is the hosting company.
- Domain. Your own address, like yourbusiness.com or yourbusiness.co.il. You pay a registrar every year.
- Email mailboxes. An address like [email protected] with a real inbox. This is usually a separate service, not part of the hosting.
- Upkeep. Updates, fixes, new photos, a changed price list. With WordPress there are also plugin and security updates.
- Your own time. Every hour you spend learning an editor or explaining changes to someone is part of the price.
The common ways, side by side
These are list prices for yearly billing, as of November 2026. Site builder prices are in USD and can change by country, so open the source and check the price shown to you.
| Way | What it costs | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Wix | Light 17.77, Core 29.77, Business 39.77 USD a month, billed yearly | wix.com/plans |
| WordPress.com | Personal 4, Premium 8, Business 25, Commerce 45 USD a month, billed yearly | wordpress.com/pricing |
| Squarespace | Basic 12, Core 17, Advanced 25 USD a month, billed yearly | squarespace.com/pricing |
| uPress (Israeli WordPress hosting) | Personal 47.91, Professional 79.85, Business 159.70 NIS a month before VAT, pegged to the dollar | upress.co.il |
| Freelancer in Israel | About 1,000 to 7,500 NIS to build, once | Midrag price guide |
| .com domain | About 11 to 20 USD a year at most registrars | Openprovider |
A few notes so the table stays fair:
- Squarespace prices differ between sources. Other sources quote 16 to 19 USD for the entry plan, so check the page in your own country.
- The freelancer range comes from Midrag's price guide, which carries no date. A simple business card site sits at the low end. A shop, many pages or custom design sit at the high end. A freelancer usually charges once to build, and you still pay for hosting and the domain on top.
- The .com price went up for registrars on 1 November 2026, to 10.97 USD wholesale plus a 0.20 USD ICANN fee. What you pay depends on the registrar.
- A .co.il domain has no price here. Prices vary between registrars, so check an Israeli registrar directly. You can also search for a name on our domain page.
What is easy to miss
The first price you see is rarely the whole bill. These are the gaps people find after a year.
Renewal prices
Many plans and domains are cheaper in the first year and renew at a higher price. Before you pay, look for the renewal price on the plan page or in the checkout. Ask the same question about the domain.
VAT
Israeli companies often show prices before VAT. uPress lists its prices before VAT, and so does DeployAI. Add VAT when you compare them with a price that already includes it.
Plans in dollars
Wix, WordPress.com and Squarespace charge in USD. The shekel amount moves with the exchange rate, and your bank or card company may add a fee on a foreign currency charge. Check with them. uPress is in shekels but pegged to the dollar, so its price can move too.
Plugins, apps and templates
A WordPress site often needs paid plugins for forms, backups, speed or a shop, and some premium themes cost money. Site builders have app markets with their own monthly fees. A site that looks cheap on the plan page can cost more once it does what you need.
Mailboxes are not included in hosting
A real mailbox for info@yourbusiness usually comes from Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 or Zoho Mail, and you pay them per user. Budget for it apart from the website. Some hosts forward mail to an inbox you already have, which may be enough for one person.
Changes after launch
If a freelancer built the site, ask how changes are priced: per hour, per change or a monthly upkeep fee. A site you cannot change yourself costs money every time a price or an opening hour changes.
How to estimate your first year
Add up the parts for the way you are looking at. A rough method:
- Take the monthly plan or hosting price and multiply by 12. For a USD plan, convert at today's rate and leave room for a change.
- Add VAT if the price is shown before VAT.
- Add the domain for one year, and check the renewal price.
- Add mailboxes, per person who needs one.
- Add the cost of building: a freelancer's quote, or your own hours.
- Add paid plugins, apps or templates you will need.
Do the same for the second year. Building is mostly a one time cost, so the second year shows what the site really costs to keep.
When a site builder is the better choice
A fair answer: for many businesses, Wix, Squarespace or WordPress is the right choice.
- You want to edit by dragging things on the page, with no AI agent and no code at all. A visual editor is made for this.
- You need a full online store with stock, shipping and many payment methods built in. The big builders and WordPress shops have done this for years.
- You rely on a specific plugin or app, like a booking system or a membership area, that already works the way you want.
- A team edits many posts every week. WordPress was built for that kind of blog or magazine.
If one of these is you, the comparison above is your real choice, and the money question is mostly which plan.
Where a site built with AI fits
There is a newer way. You describe your business to an AI agent, such as Claude Code, Cursor or Codex, or to ChatGPT or Claude in a chat, and it writes the site with you. Building costs your time and any AI subscription you pay for, not a freelancer's fee. Then the site needs a place to live.
This is what DeployAI does. It puts sites built with AI online, in Hebrew first. The prices below come from the live plans:
| Plan | Price | Sites | Your own domains | Visit history (days) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | free | 1 | 0 | 7 |
| Basic | 39 ILS a month before VAT | 1 | 1 | 90 |
| Business | 79 ILS a month before VAT | 3 | 3 | 365 |
Sites on the free plan show a small "Live with DeployAI" badge; paid plans have none and add sources, countries and top pages to the visit stats. Business also includes forwarding and sending email from your domain.
Analytics on every plan works without cookies. Plan prices are before VAT and paid in shekels, with a tax invoice. You still buy the domain at a registrar, and mailboxes still come from Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 or Zoho Mail, which you buy from them. The full details and limits are on the pricing page.
What to know before you choose it:
- You need to work with an AI agent, or with ChatGPT or Claude in a chat. If you would rather click and drag, a site builder suits you better.
- WordPress and PHP do not run here. A WordPress site is rebuilt by the agent as a new site. The guide on moving from Wix or WordPress explains how to keep your place on Google.
- Your code stays yours. Every site can be exported with its database and files.
If you already have a site you built with AI, the guide on putting an AI built site live walks you through it, and Go live shows how it works today.
The short version
- Compare the whole year, not the first month: plan, domain, mailboxes, VAT and any paid add-ons.
- A freelancer costs most at the start. A site builder costs most over time. A site you build with AI costs mostly your time.
- Choose the way you will actually keep up to date. A cheap site that never changes costs you customers.
