Connect your domain

Two ways to connect a domain you already have, what to check first, and what happens to your email.

Move your DNS to us (recommended)

We hold the domain's records, and from then on every change is one click: the site, email and subdomains.

  1. On your site's Domains page, click Move DNS.
  2. We copy all your records, email records first, and replace only the site records.
  3. At your registrar (where you bought the domain), replace the nameservers with the two we show.
  4. The change usually lands within an hour, sometimes up to a day. We email you when it does, and your email keeps working throughout.

Before you move

The domain check on the Domains page shows all of these, and we do not allow a move while one of them could break something.

  1. If DNSSEC is on at your registrar, turn it off first. Otherwise the whole domain stops working during the switch.
  2. If your email server sits on the domain's own address, connect www only, or ask your email provider for a separate server address.
  3. If your email is with your old hosting company, do not cancel that plan before your email has moved.

Add the record yourself

For DNS already on Cloudflare or at a site builder like Wix that you want to keep there.

  1. The Domains page shows a CNAME record to add, with its name and value.
  2. Add it where the domain's records are managed. The domain check tells you where that is.
  3. For a domain without www, also forward the domain to www, or add a record on @ if your DNS host supports it.

Email on your domain

We don't host mailboxes. Moving your site changes only the site records, so existing email keeps working.

  1. A domain whose DNS is with us gets forwarding addresses, like info@, to a mailbox you already have.
  2. Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 or Zoho Mail: buy from them, and we write the records in one click.
  3. A domain whose DNS is elsewhere: we show exactly which records to add and check them.

Moving away from us

The domain is yours, and you can move it whenever you want.

  1. Change the nameservers at your registrar to the new provider, after copying your records there from the DNS records page.
  2. We keep the records for 30 days, so your site and email answer while the change spreads. Deleting a site never deletes them.
